Madison company hawks beer
by Deborah Kades
CHICAGO-- A fledging Madison company is counting
on demand for a healthful, light beer.
With the ambitious name of HMS WorldSupply, a
small group of entrepreneurs who met at the UW-Madison School of
Business, has launched BluBeer, a sweet concoction with the
flavoring of real Maine blueberries.
"It's a product for young people, by young
people" Runi Hadiprajitno, 27, director of international
sales, said at the Food Marketing Institute show in Chicago
Monday.
Her partners in the venture are Monica Sentoso
and Thomas Moffitt.
Born in Indonesia, raised in Japan and educated
in the United States, Hadiprajitno is convinced that the product
will be a hit, both in Japan and here.
Blueberries are very high in antioxidants, which
some research shown to help prevent cancer, so using their juice
to flavor beer will be a marketer's dream, she said.
She is handing our samples, coasters and
keychains as part of the company's efforts to find distributors.
The company is already negotiating with a
Madison distributor, she said.
